How expensive could be to disinfect a property after COVID

Are you tired of hearing about coronavirus, who isn’t?

But the reality is that coronavirus is here and unfortunately will stay with us for a while

Some of us might be in the unfortunate situation of needing to disinfect a property or the premises of a business, either because someone was in self isolation after testing positive for covid or with some of the symptoms, or because a workplace needs to be disinfected after someone visiting or working there was diagnosed with the virus, or just to keep it clean for customers  to keep turning up!

Do you know how expensive will be to carry out an antiviral disinfection on a property?

To begin with, we need to remember that we are not used to spending so much money cleaning, right? Let's be honest, cleaning is expensive, it is one of the reasons why in the developed world not everyone has a full time maid nowadays! So now, if it involves people with special equipment that look like astronauts, you can start imagining that if you suddenly need an antiviral disinfection you might out of pocket big time!

I would like to share a story. Back in early February one of our cleaning customers, who owns a flat in London that is rented on Airbnb, was informed by one of his guests that he tested positive and had to be taken to hospital 🥺 So he called us and asked if we could do a deep clean to disinfect the place.

To be honest, we panicked when we received the request as we didn't have the knowledge or the equipment and none of our technicians were trained to do such a task. So what did we do?

We turned to Google and searched for Antiviral disinfection, we found a couple of companies that provided that service in London and got them to quote our customer for their services.

He called me a couple of days later and I noticed straight away how angry and frustrated he was, those companies wanted to charge him between £2,000 and £5,000!!!!

So we thought either this requires extremely expensive equipment or they were taking advantage of the situation. Our resigned customer didn't have any other option but to bite the bullet and pay that extortionate amount, as he needed to make sure the flat was clean for the next guests!

This thought us a valuable lesson. Some people really don't care in this situation!!!!

We also thought we could provide this service ethically and at a reasonable cost. So we spent a lot of time doing research, talking to our suppliers and to our team to find how we could provide a cost effective antiviral disinfection. To be honest it took us almost a month to get it right, as the guidance was confusing and not clear. It involved finding out what are the most effective chemicals against coronavirus, as well as the most effective tools and equipment to use and PPE to wear. With all that overwhelming information we created what in our industry is called Risk Assessments and Method Statements and all the internal procedures to retrain our team. You can imagine that our biggest concern and fear was how to avoid getting our team members and their families infected, let's alone our customers!

We have been in the cleaning business for almost 18 years. So It required a real paradigm shift to get rid of all bad habits and retrain our people.

To be honest we found that antiviral disinfection will be a bit more expensive than a normal deep cleaning, as one needs to use more expensive equipment and a lot of PPE that cannot be reused. So we immediately realised that not everyone will be able to afford even what we thought would be the cheapest price.

At the same time friends and family were calling us to ask for suggestions on what they should be doing to keep their homes and workplaces virus free.

Something we have learned in this pandemic is that we need to come together as a society. So we decided to create this page to share the key lessons we have learned and to share our thoughts on the dos and don'ts on how to clean coronavirus so anyone can do it, as it might help people to keep safe and possibly save lives, so please like our page to stay tuned to information on this topic.

We have also decided to give a FREE 15 minute consultation call to anyone who needs support with their cleaning needs. It might be talk about what to products or tools you can use at home or to find if we can help to providing our cleaning services, as we realised that because social distancing is enforced it doesn't mean you have to do all the cleaning by yourself!

The 15 minute free call can be booked on the following link: https://www.cleancoronavirus.co.uk/book-a-call

The first thing to bear in mind when cleaning is that extra attention should be given to ‘high-touch’ surfaces such as door handles and light switches.
